Don’t miss one of the highlights of the holiday season in Deltaville, riding down Lover’s Lane and cruising Jackson Creek to see the Christmas decorations. Sponsored by the Deltaville Community Association, the ride and cruise are an opportunity for residents and visitors to sightsee from the water and then return to socialize with their neighbors. Repairs to the DCA building are still underway, so this year’s festivities will be at the Philippi Church Fellowship Hall, across the street and down the block from the DCA Community Center.
The Rappahannock River Railroad Club will again set up a display of model trains this year in the Philippi Fellowship Hall. Children of all ages will delight in watching the model trains circle their tracks.
On Friday evening, December 9th, the first cruise will leave at 4:30 pm from the Philippi parking lot with a hayride to the town dock. This is 30 minutes earlier than usual and allows riders to see a beautiful sunset and the lighted Christmas decorations.
The charter boat Tortuga, owned and captained by Bubbie Crown will take passengers for a tour of both branches of Jackson Creek. Tortuga, a 57’ twin engine charter boat, carries forty passengers at a time. Tickets can be purchased in advance for cruises at 4:30, 5:30, 6:30, and 7:30 pm at Nauti Nell’s, J & W Seafood, and Parts City. Tickets are limited to 40 passengers per cruise and are a real bargain at $5.00 for adults (13 and up). Tickets for children, 12 years and younger, are free, but every child must have a ticket and be accompanied by an adult. Tickets include home made cookies and apple cider after the cruise.
Those residents on Lover’s Lane and on Jackson Creek are asked to decorate their homes for our visitors. Deltaville will be in the spotlight this particular evening and we want to make an impressive showing. The DCA needs help collecting tickets, loading passengers on the hay wagons, for setting up and serving cookies and cider, and also at the dock loading passengers. A large supply of homemade cookies will also be needed. In case of threatening weather, cruises will be rescheduled for Saturday, December 10th , same time and place. Call Nauti Nell’s to confirm a cancellation-776-9811.
