Maritime Park Art & Seafood Fest This Friday & Saturday – Something for Everyone!

Well folks, here’s the one you’ve been waiting for, the 10th Annual Holly Point Art & Seafood Festival fires up this Friday Oct 11th with the “Artists Wine & Cheese Preview Night” from 5-8pm. Over 14 artists will display their work in the South events Pavilion wing while the wine and cheese fete occupies the North wing.
The Festival continues apace Saturday October 12th from 10am-4pm with all the art and artists, Memory Lane Car Club car show, seafood, creek cruises and all that fun stuff you’ve come to expect, plus some new surprises. The volunteers at the Maritime Park are always working hard to make this “best little festival” better and better.
The new Friday night Artist’s Wine and Cheese Preview will feature Yellowtail Australian wines, cheese spreads and pâtés. Select artists will be on hand to show and talk about their art and media.
Art, in all its forms, brought to the Festival by Virginia artists, will line the Park’s arbors and paths on Saturday. Over 60 different artist and vendors bring their best work for your perusal. You’ll find custom, handmade jewelry, paintings, leather, furniture, pottery, crystals, scarves, clothing, toys. quilts, photography, stained glass, soaps, wood carving, wood decoys, and hillbilly houses. Whether you are looking for that special accent piece, or a gift for the Holidays, you can find it here.
But, if you are coming for more than the art, there are plenty of other fun attractions and things to look at and do.
There will, of course, be lots and lots of seafood and other delicious Festival food available in the Museum’s food court.
Billz Bistro, the Museum’s Galley will offer succulent crab cakes, trout fillet sandwiches, lightly spiced steamed shrimp, Cap’n Ron’s Kickin’ Chowder, shrimp salad sandwiches, Hush Puppies, Cole Slaw and their signature Eastern Carolina barbeque. The fire Department Auxiliary will be grilling hot dogs and hamburgers as well as offering baked goods and soft drinks. Terry’ Ice Cream truck will also be on hand next to the model trains..
The “Memory Lane Car Club” is stepping forward this year to be lead club for a gathering of antique and classic cars in the North parking area. All car buffs will find the variety of lovingly maintained beauties delightful.
The Rappahannock Railroaders bring the “toot, toot” of their working model trains( next to the Boat shop), the Deltaville Fire Department will be showing off their newest fire truck and Henry Lackey with his antique “clacketa-clacketa” diesels, all on hand, up close and personal.
All this as well as free admission to the exhibits in the mini-Museum, creek cruises on 2 classic restored workboats, live crabs in a demonstration shedding tank, tong an oyster, and enjoy rowing excursions on the Museum’s own John Smith replica 1600’s shallop,“Explorer”. Be sure to check out the progress on the new Museum building now in construction.
Don’t forget the many Nature walks, gardens, sculptures and exhibits that run throughout the 36 acre Park.
Admission to the Festival is free but parking in one of the Museum’s convenient, grassy lots is $5/vehicle on Saturday.. There is a large mobility restricted area and some golf carts and drivers to help those in need.
Follow the “Festival” signs on Route 33 to find the Museum and Park.
The “Raise the Roof” Fundraising Music Festival opens its gates at 4pm immediately after the Art Fest.( See related article in this paper.)
All of the proceeds from this event will go directly into the fund to rebuild the Museum better than ever. Let’s show them a crowd.
