Museum Announces 2010 "Groovin' in the Park" Music Schedule

The Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park today released its schedule of performers for their popular "Groovin' in the Park" music concert series. The music series is adding one concert to its 2010 schedule, bringing the series to 6. All Groovin's will be on the 4th Saturday of the month.

Robbin Thompson, Virginia's own award winning singer-songwriter leads off the outdoor music series on Saturday, May 1st, 5-7 pm. " I have ties to Middlesex County and the Deltaville area and have enjoyed seeing all the different and fun things the Museum is adding to the community. I'm really looking forward to playing for the Groovin' fans and starting off their season in 2010." commented Thompson.

The kick-off Groovin' will be part of the Museum and Park's opening day, the 2nd Annual "Working Watermen's Weekend" festivities scheduled for April 30th and May 1st. The first Farmers Market of the year will also be a part of the Saturday's activities. A complete schedule of the activities, offerings and exhibits for the Working Watermen's Weekend will be announced in early April.

The newly expanded Events Pavilion will serve as a rain location for these rain or shine outdoor performances. The new space will allow over 300 folks to enjoy "Groovin' in the Park" in inclement weather.

1st Groovin', Saturday, May 1st, 5-7 pm
Robbin Thompson - Virginia's own singer/songwriter. Robbin's own music played in the "Sweet Virginia Breeze". Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy!
2nd Groovin', Saturday, May 22, 6-8 pm
"Little Big Band" - Big band music puts you "In the Mood". From Glenn Miller to Benny Goodman you'll hear your favorites in the Museum's newly expanded Waterfront Park.
3rd Groovin' Saturday, June 26, 6-8 pm
Bluesman Terry Garland - Internationally acclaimed National steel slide and acoustic blues. "All blues all the time", Terry plays gritty originals and traditional favorites.
4th Groovin', Saturday, July 24th, 6-8 pm
"Jumbo Lump Daddy and the Backfin Boys" The Middle Peninsula's most popular band. An eclectic mix of rock, country, blues and "whatever comes off the fretboard", Jumbo Lump Daddy gets those feet jumpin' and hands clapping!
5th Groovin', Saturday, August 28th, 5-8 pm
Josh Walker Trio - Cutting edge Jazz at its best! Josh and his Trio perform audience-pleasing, toe-tapping jazz.
6th Groovin', Saturday Sept.25th, 6-8 pm
Amy Henderson and the "Orderlies" - Wow! What a show last year! Intricate acoustic work and extremely tight harmonies make for a wonderful afternoon of music. Stevie Nicks meets Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and ... more.
May 2009 Groovin

Tickets at the door for all Groovin's will be $10. An anyway/anytime 6 ticket package for the series will be available in advance of May 1st at a cost of $50, a $10 savings. These tickets can be used at any or all or the Groovin's. Ticket locations will be announced.

Tickets may also be purchased by mail by calling the Museum at 776-7200 and leaving your name and address. All proceeds directly benefit the Museum and Park.

Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park, an all-volunteer, all-donation, non-profit organization, is located in Deltaville, VA. at 287 Jackson Creek Road and on Mill Creek. Follow the "Groovin'" signs, turn right across from the Shell station and Thrift-mart. The Park and all outside facilities are open dawn ' til dusk.
