The annual Christmas party for Deltaville and the Jackson Creek Christmas Cruise have been scheduled for Friday, December 12th, rain or shine. The festivities will start at 4:30 pm at the Deltaville Community Center, 17147 General Puller Hwy. There will be a judged cookie contest this year with cash prizes of $100, $50, $30, and $25 for first, second, third, and fourth prizes. There will also be a people’s choice prize of $50 to be determined by attendees: one person, one vote for the best homemade cookie or confection. Activities in the Deltaville Community Center building have not been finalized, but include Christmas carols, a model train exhibit, free cookies and cider, as well as the possible appearance of Ole Saint Nick. Watch for developments in the newspaper and on the DCA website.
Tickets for the Jackson Creek cruise will go on sale November 13th at Hurd’s Hardware, Deltaville. The tickets are $10 each, must be purchased in person, and are limited to 6 per family. Payment can be made in cash or by check only. A total of 120 tickets are available for the 3 tours: 40 tickets will be sold for each time slot at 5, 6 and 7. You must arrive at least 15 minutes before the time noted on your ticket. Tickets will be collected at the DCA community center and boarding passes given to ticket holders. Transportation will be provided by two hay wagons leaving from the DCA building to the boats. All passengers must check in at the DCA building first. You will not be allowed to board the boat without a boarding pass issued at the DCA building. Please note this is not an activity for folks of limited mobility or for the very young. Any child under 50#s must provide the appropriate infant’s personal floatation device.
The DCA building will open for cruise goers at 4:30 pm on December 12. Cookies for the judged contest must be in the DCA building by 3:30 pm. Cookies for the contest and for the party can be dropped off after 1 pm on December 12. We are looking forward to hosting a crowd for the Christmas gathering. You do not need a cruise ticket to come to the party, compete in the contest, or to enjoy free cider and the homemade cookies. To volunteer to help with set-up or decorations, call Gail Butler at 804-357-6465. Call Raynell Smith with questions about the cookie contest or the cruise. Oh boy! It’s time to think about Christmas.
